The First Few Weeks - How We Raise Puppies
Introduction
At Sirline, we prioritize early socialization and training for our puppies. From a young age, our puppies are introduced to basic manners and potty training. We commence potty training as soon as they are able to walk. By utilizing a kennel environment, we can seamlessly transition from the whelping box to outdoor potty training, which we find more effective than relying on puppy pads, which may impede the training process. Puppies naturally prefer to eliminate away from their sleeping area, and we leverage this instinct to teach them that indoors is for play, sleep, and eating, while outdoors is designated for potty
Newborn - 14 days old
We handle the puppies regularly from birth to foster their development into well-rounded, social individuals. We incorporate Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) to equip them with tools to manage everyday stressors. Research indicates that ENS enhances their confidence, problem-solving skills, and ability to handle stress compared to those who have not undergone this stimulation
2-8 Weeks of Age
Between weeks 2 and 8, as puppies begin to open their eyes, walk, and explore, we focus on building their confidence through exposure to various stimuli, including loud noises, vacuums, machinery, barking dogs, music, and car rides. We follow Puppy Culture protocols to ensure our puppies are well-prepared for their future environments
8-16 Weeks of Age
Between 8 and 16 weeks, puppies undergo a critical phase known as the first fear imprint period, making this a crucial time for socialization. During this stage, their experiences can significantly influence their long-term behavior and temperament. Proper socialization involves exposing puppies to a wide range of positive and varied stimuli, including different people, environments, sounds, and other animals, in a controlled and positive manner. This early exposure helps build their confidence, reduces the likelihood of fear-based behaviors, and sets the foundation for a well-adjusted, adaptable adult dog. Ensuring that these experiences are positive is essential to fostering a well-socialized and resilient canine companion
